The Waves Remind Me
"Set your mind on the things above, not the things of this earth."
– Col 3:2
Some days I feel like if I could just stay resting with my toes in the sand and a gentle sea breeze blowing through my hair, I'd be perfectly content forever.
Some days I feel like I'm standing at the waters edge while ocean waves crash up against me higher and higher, each one stronger than the one before as I struggle just to keep my balance.
No matter what my circumstances, I'm continually gaining a deeper understanding of how my contentment was never meant to come from other people or things...but rather from the love of Christ. Praising God and daily rooting myself in His truth not only gives me rest, but it does a strange and wonderful work inside of me, strengthening and preparing me for each day.
Whether waves are crashing or a gentle breeze is blowing, I know I have all I need. So today as I enjoyed the ocean and its beauty, I took a moment to praise the gift giver, not the gift...and I found myself smiling as I set my mind on Him.
What are you setting your mind on today?
