Intake Two - Eastern Sierra Fall Colors
Can you believe that we’ve already welcomed the first days of Autumn? I can’t think of a better adventure than enjoying some of California’s Eastern Sierra Fall colors with you…so I hope you’ll join me for a gentle Bishop hike at Intake Two.
Location & Hike
Located just 16 miles west of Bishop near the town of Aspendell, Intake Two is a small lake created by a dam along Bishop Creek. This beautiful lake has a gentle 1 mile hike that takes you around the perimeter of the waters edge along an old access road, featuring quiet side paths out to the water’s edge and even an old bridge that crosses the creek.
Local Activities
Along with being a great place to hike and practice your nature photography skills, Intake Two is popular with boaters since this water is stocked with trout. The campground here features five walk-in sites by the west shore and 11 sites near the creek. Cardinal Village Resort, Bishop Creek Lodge, and Creekside Inn are all popular accommodations located nearby as well. Horseback riding and whitewater paddling along the middle fork are also popular activities in the area .
Fall Colors
Intake Two takes me back to my childhood in the best possible way when I spent countless days with my dad fishing at our local lakes and exploring neighborhood ponds. Intake Two is beautiful year-round, but the aspen trees light up the lake with vibrant oranges and yellows during Autumn…and this lake is one of the most easily accessible and spectacular places to see California’s Fall Eastern Sierra colors.
Know Before You Go
• Wildlife is abundant in this area (including local black bears), so food must be kept on your person and/or properly stored at all times.
• Dogs are allowed in the Intake Two campground area, but must remain leashed at all times.
• Picnic tables and barbecues are available for day use, along with flush toilets and running water.
