Why HORIZON by Yosemite
As someone who cherishes the wonders of the great outdoors and loves staying in unique accommodations on my adventures, this hidden gem is a magnificent blend of modern comfort and the beauty of nature. HORIZON by Yosemite offers a sanctuary for those looking to unwind in luxury while reconnecting with the natural world...and for anyone planning a visit to Yosemite National Park, this villa is conveniently located in the heart of Midpines, CA just 25 miles from the Arch Rock Yosemite National Park entrance along Highway 140.
Property Overview
From the moment you arrive, HORIZON by Yosemite feels like an elegant home away from home. The entire property can be fully reserved (how I enjoyed it this week) or you can book one of the five individual suites. Perched atop a hill in the scenic Sierra Nevada on 60 acres of land, this pristine property exudes peace and tranquility. The rolling hills and lush forest views are breathtaking and panoramic. Whether you’re seeking adventure or relaxation, this property offers a wonderful balance of of both with unparalleled privacy and high-end finishes.
Architecture & Design
HORIZON by Yosemite was specifically designed to be a place where luxury meets nature. Inspired by sequoia trees, rich hues are reflected in the landscape and architectural elements. The property boasts a modern, sleek design that starts right from the entrance and parking area. Directly in front of the villa, ample parking (complete with two Tesla EV chargers) harmoniously blends in with the picturesque property. Elegant design and minimalistic lines reflect the tranquil surroundings as you open the front door.
Common Indoor Space
The main villa is a visually stunning retreat, thoughtfully laid out, blending natural elements with high-end modern amenities. Upon entering you are met with an open concept living and dining area. Soaring windows and sliding glass doors let natural light flow through the space. Here you can enjoy a meal at the ten person dining table and relax in the living room area with ample seating — a perfect place to lounge by the fireplace feature. The deluxe kitchen with an extended island is fully equipped with everything you need to create a delicious meal. There’s also a butler’s kitchen area complete with a coffee/tea bar and microwave, as well as a powder room. This entire common space flows harmoniously, making it an ideal place to both relax and socialize.
Private Suites
Each room here is spacious, impeccably clean, and beautifully furnished. The interiors are bright and calming, large windows boast stunning views of the landscape, while natural stone and wood elements are highlighted throughout the rooms. Every detail, from the plush comfortable bedding and neutral decor to the spa-like soaking tubs ensure a comfortable and relaxing stay.
HORIZON by Yosemite is home to 5 individual suites located along a singular hallway, and each room features one of two layouts available to guests. They all include an en-suite bath, separate soaking tub, desk area, king size bed with plush bedding, and a private outdoor patio with unobstructed wilderness views. Each outdoor space is complete with a louvered pergola, seating area, and fire pit perfect for s’mores and stargazing. Let’s take a look at each room individually.
Canyon Room
Located closest to the common area, the Canyon Room has a king size bed facing out towards the private patio, perfect for 1-2 guests. Like all the rooms, the Canyon Room features a soaking tub with a view...however, this room also has a built-in fireplace above the tub, adding a special high-end touch to this suite.
Geyser, Meadow & Sequoia Rooms
Next down the hall, you reach the Geyser, Meadow and Sequoia Rooms in the aforementioned order. These rooms are nearly identical and mirror each other in layout. The king size bed in each of these rooms is situated against a side wall, and while these three rooms do not have an indoor fireplace, they still have a soaking tub and private patio with a fire pit, as well as an extended floor plan that includes a pull out sofa, perfect for groups of 2-4 people that are looking for a bit more space.
Glacier Room
I would be more than happy staying in any of the rooms here at HORIZON by Yosemite, but if I had to pick a favorite I would choose the Glacier Room. This room is located at the very end of the hallway, so it is the most secluded suite on the property. It features a similar layout to the Canyon Room with king bed facing the wonderful private patio views, including the soaking tub and indoor fireplace. However, the Glacier Room has a special feature not included with any of the other rooms...the private outside space is larger than the other rooms, and just to the right of the pergola is a magical stargazing bubble dome. This unique transparent sphere is certainly made for stargazing. I spent multiple evenings on my trip enjoying dinner here while watching the sunset, then laying back and watching the stars shine. I’ve never seen anything like this in all my Yosemite adventures over the years!
Common Outdoor Space
The expansive outdoor space is definitely a property highlight. I spent so much of my stay enjoying this area. You can dine alfresco in the large outdoor seating area under the covered patio or open up the pergola to let natural light shine through while grilling up a meal. Get your daily dose of vitamin D lounging in a chaise and take a dip in the swim spa. There’s wide open spaces on both the paved patio and the synthetic grass turf for morning workouts or stretching...and you’ll want to light up the fire pit for evening s’mores before watching the Milky Way dance across the night sky.
Hiking Trail
One of the highlights offered to HORIZON guests is a private hiking trail, which also serves as a firebreak for the property. This one-mile loop trail has just over 200 feet in elevation change and takes you across a lovely section of wilderness filled with wildflowers, beautiful trees, rocks, and wildlife, perfect for a sunrise or sunset stroll. It’s a great activity to stretch your legs and get a little exercise without having to leave the property.
Amenities
• One of the delights of staying at HORIZON by Yosemite is the refrigerator is fully stocked with fresh fruit, pastries, juices, breakfast sandwiches, and more upon your arrival...so you never need to worry about breakfast here.
• There are no televisions on property, so you can fully enjoy the sounds of nature around you. However, as a full time travel writer, staying connected is very important (as is with many guests). HORIZON provides complimentary high-speed Starlink WiFi, which made sure I could get all my work done...even while lounging by the pool!
• A laundry room is available so you can wash anything you need during your stay. The kitchen has a full size dishwasher & refrigerator along with all the kitchenware needed to make and enjoy a wonderful meal (as well as plenty of to-go containers, cups, etc.

• Bath amenities, a hair dryer, extra towels, blankets, and bed linens are all provided, and the full blackout shades in each room ensure a wonderful night’s sleep.
Nearby Activities & Food
Midpines and the surrounding areas are teeming with activities for outdoor and travel enthusiasts. During my stay, I indulged in several memorable experiences:
1. Exploring Yosemite: Just a short 25 mile drive from HORIZON, Yosemite National Park is a must-visit. From stunning Yosemite Valley views to the towering cliffs of Glacier Point, there are endless adventures to embark on in this park.
2. Historic Mariposa: Located less than ten miles south of HORIZON by Yosemite, Mariposa has so much rich local history to explore. Visit the Mariposa Museum and History Center for exhibits on the California Gold Rush, Native American artifacts, and historic buildings. Explore California’s mining heritage at the California State Mining and Mineral Museum. Displays include minerals, gems, and gold rush artifacts. Stroll through Mariposa’s Arts Park, which often hosts local art shows, live music, and community events.
3. Dining: Nearby dining options are endless. I enjoyed the Mariposa Pizza Factory, High Country Health Food & Cafe, Mariposa Little Shop of Ramen, Castillo's Mexican Food, and Sticks Coffee.
Know Before You Go
• Horizon by Yosemite is officially open and welcoming guests year round, and before booking it’s important to note that children under 13, as well as dogs, are not allowed on property. While the villa and patio are impeccably designed, the surrounding property (60 acres) is a pristine undeveloped and rugged wilderness — not a place you would want little ones or pets wandering off into.
• As someone who worked in the service industry both during and after college, I’m always incredibly appreciative of those who work in this field. During my stay, I had the pleasure of meeting both Anne and Ashley, and I want to take a moment to acknowledge them both. They went above and beyond to make me feel welcome, providing personalized recommendations and answering all of my questions, ensuring my visit felt truly special.
• Ample parking is available, including two Tesla EV charging stations.
• Unique codes to access the main property gate, villa front door, and individual suites will be provided once bookings have been secured.
• The clear, unpolluted skies of Midpines make for perfect stargazing, and you can enjoy watching the sun set, the stars shine, and the sun rise all throughout the property.
• If you’re planning to visit Yosemite National Park, make sure to check the official NPS website prior to heading out for the most up-to-date weather and road conditions, as well as information on park reservation requirements.
• Wildlife is abundant in this area, including black bears, rattlesnakes, coyotes, and bobcats. Please never approach or try to feed wild animals, and refrain from leaving food unattended outside or in your vehicle.
