Flying with Giants
The incredible size and beauty of these giants take my breath away every time I visit Sequoia National Forest. I just can't capture their full magnitude in pictures or words, but it's my pleasure to try.
The Trail of 100 Giants is one of my favorite spots in the Sequoias, with so much history. Some trees here are estimated to be over 1500 years old and over 200 feet tall…it feels otherworldly.
On my trip this past weekend my car was alone on the winding roads. One thing that makes visiting this forest so special in Spring or Fall (particularly on weekdays) is the sound when no one else is around. Other than a gentle rustling of the wind against the leaves or the occasional pine cone hitting the ground from somewhere up high, the silence is beautiful…not ominous or frightening at all, but perfectly peaceful. I breathe in the gentle stillness that soothes my spirit and reminds me that greatness doesn’t always roar loudly, but is sometimes found in comforting quiet.
These gentle giants don't make a sound but they speak boldly to the might and power of their Creator. It's my joy to worship Him in their presence.
"Let all the trees of the forest sing for joy. Let all creation rejoice before the Lord.” - Psalm 96:12-13
Where do you go to find joy & quiet?
